In February 2019, I moved into a new art studio space located in Bird Road Arts District in South Miami, Florida. My brief residence at Warehouse 4726 gave me the opportunity to network, gain exposure as well as meet the most amazing artists. I felt truly welcomed and honored to be apart of this community. Open Art Studio was held once per month where friends, relatives and others were invited to enjoy a glass of wine, light refreshments, as well as view or purchase our art work.
I remembered the excitement of setting up for my first open art studio night and decided to showcase ‘Self-Portrait’, Working Man’, ‘Usian Bolt’, ‘Meditation Man’ and ‘Praying Man’ sculptures. Even though It was dark and I could not see anyone face, I felt the joy and positive energy manifesting throughout the space.
I can recall a touching moment during the exhibit where one of the guests read my story description about “Praying Man” . After reading the story, she started to cry. I then asked her “what about this story made you cry?” She replied “I can relate to this sculpture and the story of Praying Man.” It was an unforgettable experience and I will always cherish these memories of this event.
